Thomson Reuters (TRI) Unveils Agentic Platform For Accounting Professionals

On June 2, Thomson Reuters Corporation (NYSE:TRI) ushered in a new era of artificial intelligence by launching an agentic intelligence platform. CoCounsel is the company’s new agentic AI platform for tax audit and accounting professionals. It is designed to automate real work from client file review to memo drafting and ensuring compliance checks.

The agentic AI platform is refined by legal tax, audit, and accounting experts to reason in alignment with professional standards and best practices. It also ensures human expertise takes precedence to guide judgment, validate outputs, and make final decisions.

“Now CoCounsel doesn’t just assist — it acts with context, navigates complexity, and integrates directly into how professionals already operate. It’s purpose-built for high-stakes work — and it’s only the beginning,” said Kevin Merlini, Vice President of Product at Thomson Reuters.

The agentic platform for accounting professionals has been in development for over a year. Its development has accelerated following the acquisition of Materia, an AI copilot startup specializing in agentic systems for tax and accounting.

Thomson Reuters insists it is not rebranding AI assistants with the new agentic platform. Instead, it is engineering agentic systems while backing them with trusted content, custom-trained models, and real domain expertise. The strategy enables its AI agents to act and think within established industry best practices while utilizing the most important features and content from platforms like Checkpoint and Westlaw.

Thomson Reuters provides information and technology services to businesses and professionals in legal, financial, tax, accounting, and media markets. It offers comprehensive insights, analysis, and tools to help clients make informed decisions and stay compliant.
