Galaxy Tab Vs iPad Mini: In the world of small tablets, the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad mini is king. This device may be less than a year old, but it is chugging along nicely. A lot of its popularity is based on the success of its big brother, however, this tablet can definitely stand on its own two feet.

With a growing number of consumers more interested than ever in a smaller tablet, Apple and its iPad mini is sure to have more competition than ever before in the years to come.

If Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is dominating a market segment you can be rest assured that Samsung is not far behind. This is definitely the case with full size tablets and smartphones. And now, it appears the company is jumping head first into the small tablet arena.

Before we go any further, it is important to note that Apple is not the only company with a smaller tablet. Amazon and Google are also competing in this space.

Earlier today, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Tab 3. This is a direct competitor of the Apple iPad mini as well as devices from Amazon, Google, and other competitors.

Here is a brief excerpt from the company’s official press release:

“Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today announced the introduction of the GALAXY Tab 3 – 7-inch tablet featuring sleek design and enhanced capabilities that bring capabilities that bring better performance and multimedia experiences to your fingertips.”

As you can see, the Galaxy Tab 3 is slated to compete directly with the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad mini.

There are many features that Samsung is relying on as a means of biting into Cupertino’s market share.

For example, the Tab 3 has a “thinner bezel” than its predecessor. Along with this, it is powered by a 1.2 GHz Dual Core processor that is meant to allow for faster downloads and sharing.

And of course, you don’t want to overlook the tablet’s “3-megapixel camera rear camera and 1.3 -megapixel front camera.”

With its Android 4.1 operating system, Google may also find itself a big winner if this tablet takes off.

What does all this mean to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)? Right now, nobody knows for sure. It appears that the new Galaxy Tab 3 is going to be a major competitor, but you never really know until consumers begin to try it out.

One thing is for sure: we won’t have to wait long, as the WiFi version will become available in May with a 3G follow-up set for June.

Does this put more pressure on Apple to update its iPad mini in the near future? Many will agree that it does.
