This is a follow-on contract to the previously announced integration and support contract, and includes upgrades to the Flight IIA destroyers with the SPY-6(V)4 variant. Work on the contract is expected to be completed by May next year.

Under the agreement, RTX Corporation (NYSE:RTX)’s Raytheon business will support the SPY-6 family of radars through training, ship installation, integration and testing, engineering services, and software upgrades that will further improve the radar’s capabilities.

Barbara Borgonovi, President of Naval Power at Raytheon, stated the following on the contract:

“SPY-6 is the most advanced radar in the U.S. naval fleet, providing ships a new level of defense against evolving threats. This contract highlights the essential role of this technology in supporting the U.S. Navy’s technology roadmap for several decades to come.”

SPY-6 is now active on two new Navy ships, with three more set for deployment later this year. Over the next decade, the tally is expected to climb to more than 60 U.S. Navy ships.
