Right now, mobile computing is all the rage. Despite the fact that this is something that has already been talked about “to death” in 2013, many still don’t realize what it is all about. Along with this, they don’t realize how certain companies, such as Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry, fit into the fold.

As you can imagine, this means something different to consumers, carriers, and enterprises. That being said, there is no denying the fact that this space is growing and the companies involved are in position to take full advantage over the long run.

This leads to one very important question: where does Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) fit into the mix? While nobody knows the answer to this question just yet, the once dominant smartphone company has stepped in and explained some of what they are doing.

Here is an excerpt from the blog post, explaining in detail what BlackBerry is up to:

“Here at the Telematics Detroit Conference, we’ve unveiled a solution for automakers that lets them easily manage and securely download software updates to a vehicle. The Software Update Management for Automotive service leverages BlackBerry’s global, secure infrastructure.”

There you go. BlackBerry is working with automakers to offer a secure way to manage software updates. If security is something that automakers are interested, which is obviously the case, it is safe to say that they will be thinking long and hard about what BlackBerry has to offer. After all, the company has been known for many years for offering secure service .

The piece goes onto add the following:

“Automakers want to be able to deliver software updates that can offer new, compelling capabilities to their customers, long after the initial sale. With vehicles becoming connected end points, the opportunity is wireless. A secure connection to end points such as this, enabled by BlackBerry technology, will help automakers connect with customers and allow them to bring new features, and potentially diagnose problems remotely.”

In the growing world of mobile computing, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is not backing down. Instead, the company is looking to strike while the iron is hot.
