Blackberry Playbook Tablet: Research In Motion Hints at Another Run in Big Market

Blackberry Playbook Tablet: Do you remember this article talking about the potential of Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) getting back into the tablet market in 2013? While this may sound like a mistake, considering the fact that the company’s first effort did not bode well, it appears that the idea is something being kicked around.

Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY)According to a report by Global News, “BlackBerry chief executive Thorsten Heins hasn’t ruled out taking another swing at the tablet industry, after earlier versions of its PlayBook failed to catch on with consumers.”

As you know, the company’s PlayBook tablet was more or les a flop. While the intentions of this device were good, things never panned out. Of course, this has a lot to do with the success of the competition. For example, the PlayBook was never going to be able to overtake the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad.

Despite the competition, there is room for another tablet in the market. That being said, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has to know what it is getting into. Throwing something together and hoping for the best is not going to get it done.

In a recent interview with The Canadian Press, Heins added the following when discussing another run at the tablet market:

“We’re thinking about it. But we’re thinking about it also in the context of BlackBerry 10.”

In other words, the company knows it must take a different approach this time around.

The PlayBook tablet from Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) appeared to be a disaster from the get go. It was meant to “pair with existing BlackBerry smartphones to” but some of the technology was not available when the device was made available to the public. This pretty much killed things.

Whether or not Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) gets involved in the tablet market once again is yet to be seen. But one thing we do know is that the company is at least considering its options.
