If you live in the United States, you are well aware that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is one of the most popular brands in the country. Not only does this hold true in the tech space but it holds true in an overall sense. But where does Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry fit into the equation?

While BlackBerry may not be as popular today as it was five years ago, especially in the United States, there are other countries in which the company is continuing to perform well.

Research in Motion Ltd. (BBRY)One such country is South Africa. Here is a recent story, direct from the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) blog, that shows just how well the company is performing among youths: BlackBerry Tops for South African Youth for the Third Year in 2013.

Not only has BlackBerry done well for itself in this country thus far in 2013, but it is the third year in a row the company has taken how this award.

Here is a brief excerpt from the blog post:

“The youth of South Africa has once again independently voted BlackBerry as the ‘Coolest Brand Overall’ in the Sunday Times Generation Next 2013 Brand Survey Awards. Young voters also named BlackBerry the ‘Coolest Cellphone’ and voted BBM as the ‘Coolest Cellphone App’ for the third year running.’

As you can see, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is having quite the impact on the youth of South Africa. This may not do much for the company in other parts of the world, but it goes a long way in showing that it still has a lot to offer in some circles.

Not only did BlackBerry find itself at the top of the list in the “coolest brand overall” category, but it took home top honors for “coolest cellphone” and “coolest cellphone app.”

If nothing else, this shows that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is making progress with hopes of establishing this type of appeal in more countries throughout the world.

Here is what Alexandra Zagury, Managing Director for South and Southern Africa at BlackBerry, had to say:

“We are delighted that BlackBerry is the coolest brand for the third year in a row and sincerely thank our young fans for their loyalty and support.
