BlackBerry 10 Apps: Research In Motion BlackBerry ‘Firing on All Cylinders’

BlackBerry 10 Apps: Yesterday was quite the day at the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry Live keynote in Orlando, Florida.

As you can imagine, there was a lot going on including quite a bit of information from CEO Thorsten Heins.

Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY)As the day got started, Heins spoke in depth about what BlackBerry has faced over the past year as well as what he expects from the company in the future. And as you can imagine, Heins, along with the rest of the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) team, is looking for big things in the years to come.

According to the official BlackBerry blog, he went on “to talk about our rapidly growing app ecosystem with BlackBerry World now containing 120,000 BlackBerry 10 applications!”

This is big news for Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) as the company is relying heavily on the development and availability of apps as a means of competing with the smartphone industry’s frontrunners.

The theme of the day appeared to be one of showing the world just how far BlackBerry has come over the past year. When you look back at this time last year, there was no new operating system. There was no Z10 or Q10. Instead, all people saw was a once proud company that was simply trying to get back on its feet.

Now, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) can be proud of what it has to offer. And as Heins put it, “BlackBerry is firing on all cylinders!”

Adding to the excitement was the fact that Heins took the time to discuss a new hardware announcement, the Q5 smartphone. This phone will “be available in select markets around the world” and drew a big round of applause from those in the audience.

Does the company still have a lot of catching up to do in the smartphone market? Most definitely. However, there is no reason to believe it is incapable of making up ground in the near future.

This event has gone a long way in showing the world that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is back. And as Heins put it, the company is “firing on all cylinders.”
