Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NOK), Microsoft Corporation (MSFT): Amber Waves of Windows

Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) has been alerting its Lumia customers and potential customers about some interesting new updates to the Windows Phone operating system by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) that will see its way onto the phones this summer. Nokia has been busy this year launching a new stable of Lumias that run on the Windows Phone 8 platform, and while the feedback on the devices have been positive, the handsets have seemed to be getting modest sales numbers as momentum grows slowly – a familiar protocol for any new Microsoft device or service.

Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NOK)Well, with all the talk around the Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) Lumia 925 that launched a couple weeks ago, there was a supplemental  discussion about a Windows update that would essentially bring out more of the potential for the 925 as well as other Lumia handsets as it rolls out. As reports are swirling on a release date for the 925 on retail shelves (June 5 has been confirmed by several reports), there is word coming that the Windows Phone update, known as Windows Phone Amber, may very well roll out at the same time – and there is even some talk that the update will be already installed on the 925 when it hits the retail stores, with Amber  rolling out to other Lumia devices in the coming weeks.

Some photos have recently been leaked that supposedly show some of what the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone Amber might look like on a Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) Lumia handset. There does not seem to be any large upgrades, as rumors are the next update to Windows Phone – due out late this year – is the one that would support full HD and would be formatted for potentially larger screens for megaPhones or tablet computers. However,  this update seems to have some interesting features, if the photos are to be confirmed as having the Amber update.

For example, the Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) Lumia phone featured in the photos shows a clock that is displayed even when the phone is in sleep mode, and there are settings for FM radio, in addition to settings for color saturation that can be adjusted.
