NextEra Energy Resources – a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE) –  revealed on June 2, 2025, that it has started operations at its first utility-scale solar facility in Louisiana. The 100-MW Amite Solar Energy Centre is capable of generating enough energy to power thousands of Louisiana homes and businesses.

The solar facility achieved commercial operations in March 2025 and is contributing dependable electricity to the Pelican State’s power grid. The project took 15 months to construct and created 200 construction jobs, with expectations to generate about $16 million in additional tax revenue for Tangipahoa Parish over the next 30 years.

Stuart McCurdy, vice president of development at NextEra Energy Resources, stated:

“This is a monumental moment for our team, and we are proud to work with DEMCO to bring low-cost solar energy to their co-op members. We’re thrilled to deliver homegrown energy that supports local jobs and economic development, exemplifying the power of collaboration between energy infrastructure developers, the community and local utilities in meeting the unprecedented energy demand.”
