Microsoft Bing Introduces Free Sora-Powered AI Video Generator in Mobile App

On June 2, Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Microsoft Bing announced the launch of Bing Video Creator within its mobile app, which provides users with a free tool to generate videos from text prompts using OpenAI’s advanced Sora model. This integration marks the first time that OpenAI’s powerful video generation technology, which was previously exclusive to paying customers, is available at no cost.

Bing Video Creator is rolling out globally, excluding China and Russia, to the Bing Search apps for Android and iPhone. Users can access the feature via the app’s menu or by directly entering a video description into the Bing search bar. At launch, users can generate up to 10 free 5-second video clips in a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, designed for easy sharing on platforms like TikTok or Instagram. Support for horizontal 16:9 videos will be added later. After the initial 10 free generations, users can create more videos by redeeming 100 Microsoft Rewards points per video.

Users can queue up to three video generations simultaneously. While a Standard generation speed is free for all, a Fast option is also available. The generated videos will be stored in the Bing app for up to 90 days and can be downloaded or shared. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars into OpenAI and previously integrated OpenAI’s DALL-E image generation into Bing in 2023. This latest integration follows Sora’s broad availability at the end of 2024 to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users.
