This was the first strike in the engine-maker’s Connecticut sites since 2001. On May 5, union members began picketing in East Hartford and Middletown after approximately 77% of them voted to approve the strike. The lead negotiator for the workers told Reuters on May 9 that securing a commitment from Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation (NYSE:RTX), to maintain work on the F-35 fighters in the state was a top priority for them.

The machinists are now expected to return to work on Wednesday, after about 74% of the union members voted in favor of the new deal. According to reports, the new contract guarantees continued operations at the East Hartford and Middletown plants through 2029. It also includes a 6% wage increase for the first year, with clauses for raises in 2026, 2027, and 2028.

Here is what Wayne McCarthy, President of Local 700, said on the agreement:

“This agreement includes real gains for our members and proves what we can accomplish when we stick together.”
