The fact that Samsung is putting up a solid fight against Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the smartphone market is no surprise. The company has released some killer devices over the past year, and with the power of the Android operating system these phones have quite a bit to offer a variety of consumers spanning from one side of the globe to the next.

But the real question is this: does Samsung truly believe it will be able to compete with Apple over the long haul?

Apple Inc (AAPL)Deep down inside, the higher ups at Samsung have to realize that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAAPL) has yet to hit back. Whether or not Cupertino does this in the near future and what sort of ammunition it uses is yet to be seen. One thing is for sure: it is coming soon.

Patently Apple recently took a look at the battle between the two tech giants in this piece: New Analyst Report Thinks Samsung has yet to truly innovate and Fears Apple’s rumored mid-range iPhone

While the title pretty much says it all, we don’t want to leave you hanging. Here is an excerpt from the piece, showing what this analyst thinks of both companies:

“Fitch Ratings is a global rating agency dual-headquartered in New York and London which is dedicated to providing value beyond the rating through independent and prospective credit opinions, research, and data. In their new report published this morning about Samsung, their lead analyst stated that Samsung has yet to prove its “creative” innovation which was defined as creating a new product or market segment that hasn’t existed before. Translation: Samsung’s leadership is still based on copycatting other company’s true innovation. The report also showed that some in the analyst community fear that Apple’s entrance into emerging markets with a lower end iPhone could erode some of Samsung’s market share.”

Right now, it appears that the diamond in the rough for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is a cheaper iPhone. This is something consumers and investors have been calling for, and it appears that it could be coming soon.

If Apple decides to move forward with a cheaper iPhone, it will be interesting to see what it does to Samsung’s market share. Even more so, will it force Samsung’s hand into rolling out a similar device

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is lurking and Samsung is waiting to see what Cupertino does next. This is going to be fun.
