Intel Corporation (INTC) News: $200 Touchscreen Notebooks, To Sell TV Channels, Haswell & More

Intel could make $200 touchscreen PCs a reality (Fortune)
To give the badly slumping PC market a much-need jolt, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is thinking about using one of the most effective tools in its arsenal: lowering chip prices. Intel chips can make up as much as 33% of a PC’s cost, according to supply chain analysis firm IHS. That means the chipmaker has the power to lower PC prices drastically. It might do just that. On a conference call with investors last month, former CEO Paul Otellini floated the idea of bringing $200 ultra-thin touchscreen notebooks to the market by the end of 2013.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)Haswell: What Intel’s new processor promises for Mac users (Macworld)
Usually, a CPU that offers more processing power also requires more energy—and in a laptop, that results in shorter battery life. But with Haswell, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s fourth-generation Core processor, the company promises to boost processing power and graphics performance while using less energy. Haswell made its Mac debut in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s new MacBook Air, released at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday. So far, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has released only two versions of the Haswell ULT processor for both the 11- and 13-inch models: a 1.3GHz dual-core Core i5 processor capable of Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz and 3MB shared L3 cache in the standard configurations; and a build-to-order 1.7GHz dual-core Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz and 4MB shared L3 cache. And the question isn’t if Haswell will be in other Macs, but when.

Daily Report: Intel Aims to Remake the TV Landscape (New York Times)
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s ambition to sell a bundle of television channels to subscribers over the Internet is running up against stiff resistance from cable and satellite companies, Brian Stelter reports in The New York Times. The incumbent distributors are pressing owners of cable channels, with whom they have lucrative long-term contracts, not to sign contracts with upstarts like Intel. But Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s executives intend to turn on its TV service by the end of the year. They are ready to pay more than existing distributors do for channels, though they have yet to announce any deals.
