Google Inc (GOOGL) & Barnes & Noble, Inc. (BKS) To Compete Against Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN)

Can a Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) partnership take a hit to Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)? That is exactly what the internet giant and the once-dominant bookseller are hoping to do with a new tie-up to take on the prevailing e-commerce behemoth.

According to Scarlet Fu on Bloomberg Surveillance, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) are taking directly on Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) with a new collaboration that will enable customers of the bookseller to get same-day delivery through Google Shopping Express.

Fu said that this new same-day delivery service will be available for customers starting today in several cities. With the service, customers’ orders from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Shopping Express will be sourced directly from local Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) locations to enable delivery within the same day.

The news comes after Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) expanded its “Get It Today” delivery service, a similar same-day delivery scheme, to six new cities yesterday.

Citing a report from The New York Times, Fu said that this new partnership between Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) may or may not help the bookseller “offset a recent sales slump” in their physical stores.

According to the New York Times story, the new service from the two companies to rival Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has been rolled out in Manhattan, West Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area on Thursday.
