Managing growth and innovation

With nearly 20,000 employees, it is impossible for Sergey and Larry to pursue every good idea that every employee has. Naturally, even good ideas get swept under the rug and overlooked. With the inability to develop their ideas, Google’s employees are leaving. They’re leaving for other companies such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), or even to start their own companies. In fact, the founders of Twitter, Pinterest, and FourSquare were once Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) employees.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has faced the same struggles as it has grown from a small company to a large, globally recognized corporation.  The company lacks major innovative products that could carry it upwards in the market. Lack of innovation has kept the company’s price relatively stagnant over the last five years and it will continue this way unless Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) can find a way to get innovative products out into the market.

As Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) employees choose to take their ideas out of the company, Google will suffer. In the long run, if Google cannot maintain its innovative organizational culture, it will suffer the same fate as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
