Ensign Group Acquires 3 Skilled Nursing Facilities

On June 1, The Ensign Group Inc. (NASDAQ:ENSG) expanded its presence by acquiring 3 new skilled nursing facilities. 2 of these facilities are located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. One is Ironwood Rehabilitation & Care Center, with 80 beds. The other is Lakeside Rehabilitation & Care Center, with 100 beds. The 3rd acquisition is Toluca Lake Transitional Care, which is a 52-bed center in North Hollywood, California. The expansion increases Ensign’s total operational count to 347 healthcare facilities across 17 states.

The acquisition of the Idaho properties was facilitated through a triple-net lease agreement with a third-party landlord, which is a strategy that helps Ensign reduce capital expenses while enhancing revenue generation. Toluca Lake Transitional Care is part of a larger deal, initially announced in December 2024, involving the purchase of 7 facilities from Providence Home & Community Care. Following the acquisition, a subsidiary of Standard Bearer Healthcare REIT, which is Ensign’s real estate company, will acquire the real estate of the Toluca Lake property after obtaining regulatory approvals.

In Q1 2025, Ensign’s skilled services segment reported a 15.9% year-over-year revenue increase and reached $1.1 billion, largely due to improved occupancy rates and patient days. Ensign continues to express interest in acquiring both well-performing and underperforming facilities. Recent acquisitions include Marianwood Health & Rehabilitation, Emilie Court Assisted Living, and Mother Joseph Care Center in Washington, as well as Alamitos West Health & Rehabilitation and Katella Senior Living Community in California.

The Ensign Group Inc. (NASDAQ:ENSG) provides skilled nursing, senior living, and rehabilitative services. It operates through 2 segments: Skilled Services and Standard Bearer.
