French network equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent plans to work with San Diego wireless technology giant QUALCOMM, Inc. The companies did not specify how much each would invest in the development effort. QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) said in an email response to questions Tuesday that it intends to “take a small equity stake in Alcatel-Lucent in order to hasten the introduction of next generation small cells. Wi-Fi adapter shootout: Qualcomm versus Intel in an 802.11 battle (PCWorld)
Gamers are always hunting for a competitive edge, and the folks at Bigfoot Networks—now a part of QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) Atheros—have long promised to deliver network interface cards that perform better with online games and other latency-sensitive applications. To demonstrate its prowess in this area, the company sent me two identical Alienware notebooks, one equipped with QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM)’s Killer Wireless-N 1202 and the other with Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s Centrino Advanced-N 6230. …To evaluate each card’s ability to combat network latency, QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) provided me with its Gaming Network Efficiency (GaNE) benchmark to measure ping (the time required for a packet to make a round trip on the network) and jitter (undesirable deviations in signal timing). QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) offered to allow us to examine the program’s source code to ensure that there were no shenanigans.

Intel is Working on a DVR That Records Everything, All the Time (Sys-Con)
To understand how much television could soon change, it helps to visit an Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) division here that runs like a startup. Erik Huggers, a Dutch-born former British Broadcasting Corp. …Working in bright, newsroom-style offices that differ from standard Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) cubicles, they’re creating an Internet-based service that doesn’t only serve up on-demand programs but overhauls live TV as well. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s plans include a server farm to record every piece of programming aired—local, national and international—and store it for at least three days in the “cloud.” With an Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)-designed set-top box, people won’t have to own DVRs or even plan to record programs.

Intel’s Raspberry Pi Competitor, Atom-Based Minnow Board Now Shipping (HotHardware)
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s Open Source Technology Center, in conjunction with CircuitCo, is developing a low-cost, embedded-type motherboard based on the Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) Atom processor called the MinnowBoard. The whole affair is very charming (complete with a cartoon minnow logo), and it’s being marketed as a sort of fun, hobbyist-friendly board. (Sound like the Raspberry Pi?) Although it uses Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) architecture, the hardware is open, and it runs the open source Angstrom Linux distro. Specs include an Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) Atom E640 (dual-core, 1GHz) with an Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 600, 1GB DDR2 RAM, and UEFI firmware with 4MB SPI flash.
