Boeing Targets to Wrap Up 737 MAX Variants by Year-End, Says CEO Kelly Ortberg

The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) aims to wrap up 737 MAX production by the end of 2025, CEO Kelly Ortberg told Aviation Week in an interview published on May 29.

Boeing’s near-term priorities are to complete the current development programs and get them through the certification process, Ortberg said. The company has been working for several years to achieve certification for 737 MAX’s -7 and -10 variants.

“We’re hoping to get the two variants of the 737 MAX wrapped up this year so we can start deliveries of the -7 and the -10, two airplanes that are very, very important to our customers and our backlog,” said Kelly Ortberg.

Ortberg also mentioned that the 777-9 model, which comes with the largest dual-engine widebody in the market, is underway. Boeing has completed four flight tests for the 777-9s. “I think that’s going to be a game-changing platform for us,” Ortberg cited.

Boeing’s CEO pointed out that they are not ready for the work streams for a new aircraft as of today. Ortberg added that they need to be when the market is ready for a new aircraft. The company has almost half a trillion dollars of backlog, and most of that is commercial products. Boeing’s backlog includes almost 1,200 orders for the 737 MAX 10 and 332 orders for the MAX 7 variants. Whereas, the company has nearly 419 orders for the 777-9. Ortberg said that they have a huge demand for these products.
