Apple Inc. (AAPL) To Ship More Low-end Apple Watches: Jan Dawson

Apple Watch is the device that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) hopes will be a jack-of-all-trades capable of tracking everything right from messages to reminding users of appointments, but the Cupertino-based company is still keeping everything under wraps. The only information that was coming out of the highly awaited Apple watch event was the price range for wearable. Jackdaw Research chief analyst, Jan Dawson,  during an interview with CNBC, reiterated it will be hard for Apple to ship more units of the Watch in the $10,000 plus price range as more people are expected to go for the lower-end product.

Apple is positioning Apple Watch as a fashion accessory providing a diverse offering of models and straps including two gold-encased versions that will sell for $17,000. The design of the watch is expected to be key in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) moving more products as a number of products in the market have failed to capture the much-needed attention due to their inadequacy in the design.

“It says there is a lot of anticipation around it a lot of people waiting to see what details are being announced today not least the pricing and the exact availability. Off course we got that information today and very wide price range from $349 to $17000 for different versions. Most of the action is obviously is going to happen in the sought of $349 to $1,100 range less than 1% will go to the $10,000 plus gold watches,” said Mr. Dawson.

Apple Watch is an extension of a smartphone on the wrist an advantage that Dawson believes will be key in many people buying it as opposed to if it was another health and fitness tracker. The Watch just like a phone comes with lots and lots of apps for mapping, for boarding into a plane, ordering cab or even making hotel bookings among many more.

The sale of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s innovation could in some way be limited as it has to be tethered to the latest iPhone models. Meaning people in much older versions or other platforms may shy away from buying it.

“ [..] The older iPhones will not work with the Apple Watch some of the newer ones will. The 5S certainly will and the 5 I believe will have some of the functionality but in essence it is going to be an opportunity for them to upsell you to a new phone as well. So you could end up if you do decide take the plunge leaving the Apple store having spent well over $1000 on both the watch and the new  phone,” said Mr. Dawson.
