Apple iWatch: Apple – Is This The Team That Will Create The iWatch?

Apple iWatch: A few weeks ago, we brought you a story about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) hiring Kevin Lynch away from Adobe. While this was big news at the time, things died down for a bit.

Now, it is being reported by MacG and 9 to 5 Mac that Lynch is getting ready to lead a team of former iPod engineers on a new project.

A Leading Company Cheaper Than 90% Of Blue Chips... And It Recently Bounced 12%The interesting thing here is not that Lynch is involved in a new project for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). After all, he is one of the company’s top employees. Instead, the interesting part is that he will be working with a team of former iPod engineers on a new project.

The question is: what is this project all about?

In the 9 to 5 Mac piece, there is some speculation that this could be related to a smart watch.

Here is what MacG had to say:

“We have learned that Kevin Lynch has a created a new team inside Apple with a lot of engineers who previously worked in the iPod team.

The engineers include Robert Curtis (who worked for several years on iPod firmware) and Steven Bollinger (the author of several Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) patents for the iPod, iPad user-interface and multi-touch screens).

Of course, we don’t know exactly what they are working on, but with all the iWatch rumors, this move is pretty interesting.”

At this point, nobody knows for sure where Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stands as far as an iWatch is concerned. There are rumors that the Cupertino-based company wants to release the device at some point during 2013, but whether or not this is true has yet to be confirmed. In true Apple fashion, the company is not saying a word.

The hiring of Lynch was very strange from the start. During his time at Adobe, he was not always the biggest supporter of Apple. Then, all of a sudden, he was changing teams.

There is a school of thought that believes Apple would not have poached Lynch unless it had a very good reason for doing so, such as needing him to head up a project of this magnitude.

Only time will tell what type of project Lynch is working on and whether or not this was a good hire for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
