Apple Inc. (AAPL) Hopes to Make This Experience More Enjoyable

Can you think of anything worse than being on hold for a long period of time? It doesn’t matter who you are waiting for, this can be quite frustrating. Fortunately, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has set out to make this experience more enjoyable. With its recent patent, Cupertino is going to be doing big things for a lot of people (the same with this one here).

Apple Inc. (AAPL)Earlier today, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was awarded a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for technology that will allow an iPhone user to share content, such as pictures, with another iPhone user who is put on hold. As you can imagine, this type of content sharing would give the person on hold something to do during this time.

For more information on the patent and what it brings to the table, check out the official abstract:

“A user equipment communications device is configured to provide personal content to a party to a call with a user of the device, when the user places the party on hold. The device determines that the party has been placed on hold and that the user has enabled sharing of personal content with the party. The device then transmits a visual menu to a communications device of the party via a data network, to allow the party to select a type of personal content to receive from the device while the party is on hold. When the device receives a selection from the party’s device indicating the type of personal content, it transmits a personal information asset to the party’s device according to the type of personal content indicated by the selection. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.”

Even more exciting is the fact that the party can select a type of personal content to receive while on hold. This allows the person on hold to have a personalized experience.

For those who are looking for more information on this Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) patent, explained in simpler terms, Cupertino has added the following to the patent filing:

“In an embodiment of the invention, a communications device of a user that places a party on hold during a call is configured to provide the on-hold party with interactive content via a data network, while the party remains on hold. In response to determining that the user has placed a party on hold and determining that the user has enabled sharing of personal content with the party, the user’s device transmits a visual menu to the on-hold party’s communications device over the data network.”

This is one of those patents that can change the way people communicate forever. In the future, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone users may hope they end up on hold for the chance to get involved with this technology. Imagine that.
