iPhone in Case of Emergency: While it is easy for customers to think that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) only cares about making money, nothing could be further from the truth. This can be proven by the company’s interest in providing iPhone users with access to local emergency services.

As found by AppleInsider, a safety app is something the tech titan has been considering for quite some time. This is obvious by past patent filings.

“The continuation filing, made in September of 2012, stems from a patent originally filed in June 2007, around the time that the first-generation iPhone went on sale in the U.S.”

In other words, it appears that the company is once again going to visit this idea.

The background portion of the patent explains the operation in greater detail:

“When a person travels abroad, emergencies can occur. For example, the person can become injured in an accident, be a victim of a crime, or lose their travel documents. In such situations, having knowledge of contact information for local emergency services or the pertinent consular services can be beneficial.”

“A person may gather emergency services and consular services information before traveling. However, the process of gathering the information can be time-consuming, especially if the person’s itinerary includes stops in multiple countries. Given the many preparations a person often makes before traveling abroad, a person may neglect to gather the information entirely. A person may try to rely on local individuals or a phonebook for emergency services or consular services information while abroad, but such assistance may not be readily available when an emergency does occur.”

So, what is Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s solution to this problem?

As expected, the company’s concept is an emergency app that would make it simple for users to access contact information for police, fire, or medical assistance. Better yet, this information would be served to the user based on the current location of their iPhone.
