Apple Inc. (AAPL), Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN): This PC Sells Out, Adding to New Talk

Tim Cook holding chartApple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been very quiet about the agenda for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) it has scheduled for next week, but talk has been that the emphasis would be on software and services at the conference, and new hardware would be de-emphasized or not talked about at all leading up to the fall season when CEO Tim Cook indicated that there would be no new devices announced until then.

However, with the latest news coming from Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) – perhaps the biggest retail partner for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) outside of its own ecosystem – the talk about a new device being announced at WWDC has picked up steam once again. The latest update is that Amazon.com has sold out of its existing stock of 13-inch MacBook Pro PCs with the Retina display, which is the exact device that has been rumored to be due for an update in the coming days or weeks – even so much as getting an announcement at WWDC. The timing sure seems perfect for it now, doesn’t it?

One analyst who has been shown to be pretty reliable lately in his information about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) happenings, wrote recently that the company is likely to announce a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina at WWDC, and that the device may have a full HD (1080p) FaceTime camera, a thinner design to be more portable, and would run on a more powerful Haswell processor from Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC). Despite the sellout of the entry-level 128GB flash storage model, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and other retailers still have inventory of the 256GB model and the larger 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina.

There is also talk, however, that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will announce not only its new operating systems – Macs OS X 10.9 and iOS 7 – but would also reveal new MacBook Air devices running Haswell at WWDC, devices which would have better voice recognition thanks to dual microphones (not dueling, we understand), according to some other rumor reports. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has reportedly also sold out of the 13-inch, 1.8-GHz model of the MacBook Air, and other retailers are indicating sell-outs as well, which could also signal that a new announcement may be coming next week.
