Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA) Is Going Deep Into Google Inc (GOOGL) Territory

Both Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) are well aware of where the future of technology is headed. It’s in the mobile devices. As none of the companies have a satisfactory platform which could act as an effective search engine for the device as of yet, the race is on. In an article on PCWorld, Michael Kan revealed how Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) has taken the first lead.

Most Valuable Brands In China

While Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is still scratching its head regarding an In-App search tool for its renowned Android platform, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) has already got one for its own operating system, YunOS. According to Kan, the technology is provided by a U.S. based tech company called Quixey which Alibaba had invested in earlier. The time for reaping the fruits of its investment has arrived.

However, the race is far from over. Firstly, according to Kiranjeet Kaur, an analyst for the research firm IDC, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA)’s YunOS is more or less a joke n terms of market share in the Chinese mobile space. She said that its market share is below 1%, while Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android remains the dominant operating system in the market.

Secondly, the user interface for the Quixey App might still not be satisfactory since the feature is still in its initial stages and can only become a powerful force after some time. To understand the significance of this, it is important to gain an idea of how this new tool really works. Well, first you type in your search and then Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA)’s tool will search content from all other Apps such as, Twitter, Instagram, or any of the several Apps and then display the results for you.

The reason why Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) doesn’t necessarily have to worry about this is because it is not easy to offer the same level of functionality to users, as what they would get, if they decided to use the search tool embedded in one of the Apps instead. Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA)’s search tool will need quite a gem of an interface to achieve that. However, when the topic digresses to gems and innovation in the tech industry, it’s Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) that comes to mind first.
