5. San Diego, CA

San Diego is one of the best places to pedal due to its year-round pleasant weather, and vast lanes and trails to ride a bike on, be it on the road or the hills. Travel Channel ranked the city as the second best cycling city in the country and mentioned Balboa Park and Diego Zoo as prominent attractions in the city to ride a bike to. Based on our aggregate score of 1.88, it ranks as the fifth most bike friendly city in the US.

4. Boulder, CO

Score: 1.97

Situated at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Boulder in Colorado is a biker’s paradise with hundreds of miles of biking trails and paths, including the Walker Ranch. Boulder B-cycle is the city’s bike sharing program that offers people 24/7 access to bikes and stations. Boulder ranks fourth on our list of the most bike friendly cities in the US. The Eldorado Canyon State Park, Flatirons and the Rocky Mountains are popular scenic spots bikers travel to when in Boulder.

3. Fort Collins, CO

Score: 1.99

Fort Collins in Colorado is pretty much neck-in-neck with Boulder when it comes to bikeability rankings. It has 200 miles of biking lanes, trails, and shared roadways, and covers practically the entire city of Fort Collins. Poudre River Trail is the most popular biking location that is 12 miles long and runs along a national heritage river named Cache La Poudre.

2. Davis, CA

Score: 2.22

Davis in California ranks as the second most bike friendly city in the United States. According to Ecowatch, an estimated 98% of streets in Davis have biking infrastructure and that is the reason for a high bike commuting rate of 14% in the city. Davis inaugurated its first bikeway in as early as 1967. Pleasant weather adds to the charm of the city and makes biking a refreshing experience.

Score: 3.06

San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California and is also referred to as the financial capital of the state. It tops the rankings of the most bike friendly cities in the US. San Francisco was ranked in four of the five sources analyzed for our article. Nearly 130,000 people ride a bike daily in San Francisco and 16% of the population cycles frequently, according to a report by Ecowatch. The city has more than 450 miles of bikeways.
