5. Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee houses close to six hundred thousand people. It is a relatively younger city that was set up in 1846. Despite its small size, Milwaukee houses several Fortune 500 companies such as Rockwell Automation and Harley Davidson. It is one of the cheapest cities to live in America both when it comes to two bedroom and single bedroom apartments. Its two bedroom rent of $1,110 is only fifty dollars higher than the rent for a single bedroom apartment which sits at $960.

4. El Paso, Texas

El Paso houses more than half a million people, making it a relatively larger city especially when its low rents are considered. A single bedroom apartment costs on average $830 in rent. El Paso has a relatively advanced economy, as it makes a variety of products such as machine parts, car parts, copper wire, and medical instruments. At the same time, the city is home to dozens of Fortune 500 companies, with some of these being AT&T, DISH, and Boeing.
