5 Easiest Instruments to Learn for a Child

4. Recorder

Insider Monkey Score: 4.20

Technically speaking, one of the easiest woodwind instruments to learn for a child is the recorder. There are a few reasons that schools decide to teach kids to play a recorder at a very young age. The first is that they are extremely cheap and the second being that they are incredible for learning the basics of music.

Although recorders are not as cool anymore as they were in older times, learning how to play one can still be very helpful, because if your child manages to master it, they can graduate very quickly to a saxophone, clarinet or a flute, because the placement of fingers is the same.

Recorders can vary in price from the $2 clear plastic soprano recorder version used by school children, to a $3,000 professional quality instrument.
