5. Denmark

Military Aid to Ukraine: $3.87 billion

Denmark has committed over $4 billion dollars to Kyiv in all aid, which amounts to 1.1% of its GDP. The country has received wide appreciation from allies for making far bigger contributions compared to the small size of its economy. In September, the Danish government announced another $833 million package for Ukraine, which will include tanks, armored fighting vehicles, and anti-aircraft guns.

4. Norway

Military Aid to Ukraine: $4.08 billion

Norway has made the highest contribution to Ukraine as a percentage of GDP, having spent more than $8 billion between January 2022 and July 2023, which amounts to 1.7% of its GDP. In February this year, the country’s prime minister proposed another 5-year aid package for Kyiv worth $7.3 billion. Norway has also spent about $3.92 billion in financial assistance and $230 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

3. United Kingdom

Military Aid to Ukraine: $7.27 billion

The United Kingdom finds itself on the third spot among countries that provided the highest military aid to Ukraine. Apart from spending over $7 billion on strengthening Ukraine’s defense, the country has also committed approximately $8 billion on financial and humanitarian assistance for Kyiv. In May this year, PM Rishi Sunak met his Dutch counterpart in Ireland and discussed procuring F-16 fighter jets for Ukraine and also training pilots to fly the jets, with the aim of bolstering the Ukrainian Air Force.

2. Germany

Military Aid to Ukraine: $18.90 billion

Germany is the second highest military aid provider to Ukraine. Berlin’s military assistance package for Kyiv has included several all-terrain armored vehicles, infantry fighting vehicles, battle tanks, air defense systems, military engineering capabilities, artillery, and protective equipment. Germany has also assisted Ukraine on logistics by providing the country hundreds of trucks to be used for military purposes.

Military Aid to Ukraine: $46.56 billion

The United States is the largest donor of Ukraine, having committed more than $75 billion in financial, military, and humanitarian aid since the Russian invasion in February 2022. Besides the $46.56 billion in military aid, the Americans have also pledged an estimated $26.4 billion in financial assistance to Kyiv. Washington’s role in arming and financing Ukraine has been instrumental in pushing the Russians back and getting the war in a state of stalemate. This is the first time since Harry Truman’s presidency that a European country is the largest recipient of American aid.
