5 Countries That Produce the Most Natural Gas

2. Russia

Average Annual Gas Production: 653 billion cubic meters

Russia’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production in 2023 is expected to reach approximately 30 million tons. The country is focusing on replacing Western technology and tripling its LNG exports by the end of the decade, leveraging its status as the holder of the world’s largest natural gas reserves. Moreover, Russia is experiencing growth in its natural gas reserves. In the first half of 2023, the Federal Agency for Subsurface Use reported a 305 billion cubic meter increase in these reserves. Key projects contributing to this growth include the Arctic LNG-2 project, supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin and led by Novatek, which is expected to significantly boost Russia’s LNG output and export capacity.
