5. Hyundai

Units sold in the U.S. in 2022: 724,000

Hyundai offers U.S. consumers a technology-rich lineup of cars, SUVs, and electrified vehicles. The company’s 830 dealers sold more than 724,000 vehicles in the U.S. in 2022, and nearly half were built at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama.

The most popular Hyundai model in America in 2022 was, again, the Tucson. The Santa Fe replaced the Elantra as the second-best-selling Hyundai car in the U.S. in 2022.

4. Honda

Units sold in the U.S. in 2022: 881,201

Honda’s reputation for building durable cars that perform exceedingly well has been a major driver behind the brand’s immense popularity in America. The Japanese automaker sold 983,507 vehicles in the American market last year through its Honda and Acura lineups, but marking a decrease of 32.9% from 2021. The CR-V was the brand’s most popular offering in the U.S., with 238,155 delivered last year.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) is one of the Top 10 Car Manufacturers in the U.S.

3. Chevrolet

Units sold in the U.S. in 2022: 1,518,048

Out of the four core GM brands, Chevrolet sold the most cars to Americans last year with over 1.51 million units, an increase of 5.59% from 2021.

As America’s cheapest EV following significant price cuts, sales of the Chevy Bolt were up more than 50% in the American market last year, with the automaker announcing that it would make another record 70,000 units in 2023. But instead of leaning further into the vehicle’s recent success and increased production, GM CEO Mary Barra said in April that Chevrolet would end production of the model later this year, with the company planning to release profitable electric cars in the coming years.

2. Ford

Units sold in the U.S. in 2022: 1,864,464

Ford reported a smaller decrease of 2.2% in its U.S. sales volume last year, as an improvement in inventory levels allowed the automaker to ship more sports utility vehicles and trucks to dealers. In contrast, the brand’s annual U.S. sales in 2021 had dropped by 7%.

Ford’s sales of electric vehicles hit a new record at 61,575 units last year – an increase of 126% compared to 2021 – making the company the second largest automaker of electric vehicles in America.

With 653,957 units sold last year, the Ford F-Series was the best-selling car in America

1. Toyota

Units sold in the U.S. in 2022: 2,108,458

Toyota was Most Selling Car Brand in the U.S. for the 11th consecutive year in 2022, with reported sales of 2,108,458 vehicles – but down 9.6% on volume basis with a decrease of 9.9% on daily selling rate (DSR) basis, compared to 2021. The brand’s total EV offerings make up nearly a quarter of its overall sales volume in the U.S.

One of the reasons Toyota has had such success with its vehicles is that the company has long been known for producing reliable, easy, and inexpensive to fix products, which hasn’t changed over the years.
