Video on demand, commonly known as streaming, is a global phenomenon. Just a couple of years back, no one would have thought that a laptop or a smartphone would end up serving as a conduit to massive entertainment portals with hundreds of different television shows and movies just a click away. Yet, here we are, and not only is the industry worth billions of dollars, but it is also primed for massive growth.

In fact, you’d be surprised to learn that the global streaming market is worth billions of dollars. A market research report from Fortune Business Insights estimates that the global video streaming market was worth $372 billion in 2021 and was estimated to grow to $473 billion by the end of last year. As if this weren’t enough, the research firm further estimates that the industry will grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.9% until 2029 to sit at an estimated $1.6 trillion by the end of the forecast period – making it one of the most valuable sectors on the planet. According to Fortune Business Insights, this growth has been stimulated by the coronavirus pandemic, as lockdowns and work from home mandates instilled habits in people that have now taken root. It adds that firms are racing to develop low latency streaming technologies to improve user experience, and higher user spending on digital entertainment is further aiding the market.

While the global streaming market is also made up of other sectors such as healthcare streaming, the video on demand subsector is an accurate indicator of pureplay content streaming. On this front, Fortune Business Insights estimates that this market was worth $69.55 billion in 2021 and grew to $82.77 billion in 2022. From then on, it is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 17.6% to be worth $257 billion by the end of 2029. As is evident, the video on demand market will grow slower than the broader streaming sector – unsurprising as some of the most explosive growth has already been accounted for during the coronavirus pandemic. The research firm adds that growth in social media and higher usage of the Internet has fueled the growth for video on demand, and that moving forward, cable television will play a dominant role in the market as interest and adoption in developing and growing countries such as India and Brazil grows.

With the broader market out of the way, let’s focus our attention on Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX). Netflix is by the far the most popular streaming service on the planet. This is due to the simple fact that the firm enjoys an early mover advantage – with the age old adage of the early bird getting the worm fitting perfectly here. In fact, according to data compiled by Visual Capitalist, Netflix is by far the dominating streaming platform globally as it leads in subscribers in 78 countries. In the second place is the streaming service Canal Plus, which leads in 22 countries. Cumulatively, Netflix leads in more countries than the next seven streaming services on Visual Capitalist’s list. Additionally, while the company has a global advantage, its competitors are limited to regions. For instance, Canal Plus, which shares content primarily in French, is the leader in francophone countries, with similar trends in play for Shahid – who ranks at third place and is popular in Arabic speaking regions.

Like other technology firms, Netflix is not immune to the current turbulent macroeconomic environment which has seen the costs of doing business soar right at the time when consumer purchasing powers are dropping. According to a report from Bloomberg, the firm is merging its film production studios and letting go of executives who have served at the firm for decades. This is part of efforts to produce fewer films each year and consolidate decision making at the board instead of a decentralized model that saw different divisions remain in charge of their own productions. These moves follow after Netflix’s co founder Mr. Reed Hastings left the company earlier this year and the firm races towards cracking down on password sharing on its platform. New features to stop this rolled out in Canada earlier this year, with users in America apprehensive about what this means for their binge-watching habits.

As to how it will manage this fundamental shift on its platform, the firm outlined in its fourth quarter of 2022 shareholder letter shared earlier this year that:

In addition, we expect to roll out paid sharing more broadly later in Q1’23 (more details below in the Product and Pricing section). We anticipate that this will result in a very different quarterly paid net adds pattern in 2023, with paid net adds likely to be greater in Q2’23 than in Q1’23. From our experience in Latin America, we expect some cancel reaction in each market when we roll out paid sharing, which impacts near term member growth. But as borrower households begin to activate their own standalone accounts and extra member accounts are added, we expect to see improved overall revenue, which is our goal with all plan and pricing changes.

Our long term financial objectives remain unchanged – sustain double digit revenue growth, expand operating margin and deliver growing positive free cash flow. For the full year 2023, as we continue to improve our service, grow our advertising business and launch paid sharing, we expect constant currency revenue growth to accelerate over the course of the year. We also expect year over year operating profit growth and operating margin expansion for the full year (assuming no material swings in F/X).

With these details in mind, let’s take a look at some top detective flicks on Netflix. After all, you never know when account sharing becomes a thing of the past.

The $250 Trillion AI Hype is Real. A few years from now, you’ll probably wish you’d bought this stock.

When Jeff Bezos said that one breakthrough technology would shape Amazon’s destiny, even Wall Street’s biggest analysts were caught off guard.

Fast forward a year and Amazon’s new CEO Andy Jassy described generative AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime” technology that is already being used across Amazon to reinvent customer experiences.

At the 8th Future Investment Initiative conference, Elon Musk predicted that by 2040 there would be at least 10 billion humanoid robots, with each priced between $20,000 and $25,000.

Do the math. According to Musk, this technology could be worth $250 trillion by 2040.

Put another way, that’s roughly equal to:

  • 175 Teslas
  • 107 Amazons
  • 140 Metas
  • 84 Googles
  • 65 Microsofts
  • And 55 Nvidias

And here’s the wild part — this $250 trillion wave isn’t tied to one company, but to an entire ecosystem of AI innovators set to reshape the global economy.

It’s a leap so massive, it could reshape how businesses, governments, and consumers operate worldwide.

Even if that $250 trillion figure sounds ambitious, major firms like PwC and McKinsey still see AI unlocking multi-trillion-dollar potential.

How could anything be worth that much?

The answer lies in a breakthrough so powerful it’s redefining how humanity works, learns, and creates.

And this breakthrough has already set off a frenzy among hedge funds and Wall Street’s top investors.

What most investors don’t realize is that one under-owned company holds the key to this $250 trillion revolution.

In fact, Verge argues this company’s supercheap AI technology should concern rivals.

Before I reveal the details, let’s talk about how some of the richest people on the planet are positioning themselves.

  • Bill Gates sees artificial intelligence as the “biggest technological advance in my lifetime,” more transformative than the internet or personal computer, capable of improving healthcare, education, and addressing climate change.
  • Larry Ellison — through Oracle, is spending billions on Nvidia chips and partnering with Cohere to embed generative AI across Oracle’s cloud and apps.
  • Warren Buffett — not known for tech hype — says this breakthrough could have a ‘hugely beneficial social impact.

When billionaires from Silicon Valley to Wall Street line up behind the same idea — you know it’s worth paying attention to.

Even as we admire what Tesla, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Microsoft have built, we believe an even greater opportunity lies elsewhere…

But the real story isn’t Nvidia — it’s a much smaller company quietly improving the critical technology that makes this entire revolution possible.

And judging by what I’m hearing from both Silicon Valley insiders and Wall Street veterans…

This prediction might not be bold at all:

A few years from now, you’ll wish you’d owned this stock.
