10. Italy

Since the 1950s, life expectancy in Italy has gone up by almost 20 years. In addition, it has shown a rising trend of 0.17% from 2019 to 2023, with life expectancy currently standing at 84 years. 

9. Australia

Due to an effective healthcare system and high vaccination rates, life expectancy in Australia has considerably improved over the years. In 2022, low baby and mother mortality rates led to longevity being 83.79 years.

Despite the population of Iceland being around 380,000, it is still not among the top 3 countries with the longest life expectancy. However, it has shown a consistent increase of 0.18% from 2022 to 2023, with the average lifespan standing at 83.52 years in 2023. 

7. Norway

In the last decade, life expectancy in Norway has fluctuated between 0.25% to 0.14% till it finally became stable at 0.18% between 2018 and 2019. The last reported longevity in 2023 stands at 82.95 years. 

6. Sweden

Sweden has historically recorded a higher life expectancy in women as compared to men. Where the overall figure is concerned, it has risen in the last 10 years. In 2022, the country recorded the highest longevity at 83.18 years. 

5. South Korea

In 1960, South Koreans recorded a life expectancy of 52.4 years, which has since gone up to 83.5 years in 2023. What contributes to the increasing trend in life expectancy is the advanced healthcare of the country. As per the health index score, South Korea was ranked at number 3 in 2023, which indicates that the country’s residents are healthy, with access to necessary health services. Moreover, the figure is expected to go up to 92.78 years by the time 2100 rolls around. 

4. Spain

Between 2000 and 2019, life expectancy in Spain increased by over 4 years, which was the highest among all EU countries in the period. However, amid the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, longevity fell by 1.6 years to 83.61 years, which was the largest decrease experienced by any EU country. Currently, Spain has an average life expectancy of 83.99 years. 

3. Hong Kong

Since 1971, life expectancies at birth have risen for both sexes in Hong Kong, increasing from 81.3 years in 1971 to 87.2 years in 2022. Despite the increase not being substantial, it is believed to be significant due to the country experiencing exceptionally high rates of mortality in the same year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The average lifespan in the country has increased from 84.55 years in 2019 to 85.03 years in 2023. By the beginning of 2100, this number has been predicted to have gone up to 93.72 years.

In 2022, it was revealed that due to the high standard of living and an advanced healthcare system in Singapore, people in the country could live up to as many as 83 years. This figure further improved in 2023 with an increase of 0.16%, standing at 84.07 years.
