Chris Shumway had planned to stay on as the CEO and Chairman of the management committee, explaining "A key to my investment success has been my ability to invest with a long-term focus," which he said he would be freer to do if he isn't managing client capital. His investors weren't having it though. They asked for over $3 billion in redemptions.
If investors had approved his plan, Chris Shumway would have been free to focus on finding a few highly profitable investment ideas each year, while managing risk in general and keeping an eye to macroeconomic trends. "That's how I started in this business," said Chris Shumway. "I'm going back to that."
