BlueCrest Capital Management is an alternative asset management company that was founded by Williams Reeves and Michael Platt in 2000, both of which were managing directors and senior proprietary traders at JP Morgan before launching BlueCrest Capital Management LP. In 2008, BlueCrest Capital Management LP became BlueCrest Capital Management LLP, but the business remained the same. Michael Platt is its principal owner. In 2010, Platt left London, where BlueCrest is based, for Geneva, explaining: "We are strongly of the view that the new group structure, including the the establishment of the Geneva office in particular, will enhance the group's ability to recruit and retain the best talent in our industry, so helping us to continue to deliver strong investment performance."

Roughly 25% of BlueCrest is owned by Man Group Holdings, with the balance held by the Principals.
Since its inception, BlueCrest has focused on developing an investment bank quality trading infrastructure. It believes in a specialist model, around which teams can be built and new trading strategies developed. BlueCrest couples this focus on specialism with proprietary analytical technology. The fund finds that this combination results in less concentrated risk in that it allows the portfolio managers to keep a more narrow focus, a necessity for uncovering anomalies.
