Following graduation, he practiced securities law as an attorney at Ice Miller LLP and held the position of Deputy Secretary of State of Indiana for a term. In 1999, Gerstner returned to academia, enrolling at Harvard Business School, where he completed his studies in 2000, obtaining a Master of Business Administration degree.

In the realm of public markets, Altimeter Capital oversees a long/short public equity fund specializing in technology company investments. Renowned for its robust performance, the public equity fund has achieved an average annual return of 29.52% since 2011. In the private markets, Altimeter Capital directs private growth equity funds targeting investments in technology companies at various stages, encompassing both early and later stages.
