Most investors, both individual and institutional, he once said, “will find that the best way to own common stocks is through an index fund that charges minimal fees. Those following this path are sure to beat the net results (after fees and expenses) of the great majority of investment professionals.”

On Monday at the Global Philanthropy Forum conference in Silicon Valley, Peter Buffett mixed his musical talents and his passion for improving the lives of girls and women. An Emmy Award-winning musician, Buffett debuted a new song meant to raise awareness of and inspire action against human trafficking and sexual abuse of girls and women. The song, ‘Silence is Broken’ was accompanied by video images of young girls, along with running quotes from those who are victims of abuse and trafficking. Many of the quotes were heartbreaking: “My drug-addicted uncle started to molest me, not realizing that his friend was already molesting me” – Age 7 Peter Buffett and his wife Jennifer run the NoVo Foundation, which works to empower girls and women and end violence against them.

But in this world you do not need to be the best to achieve success. Both Warren Buffett and Tiger Woods do a few simple things spectacularly well to achieve their goals.
