Warren Buffett News: Buffett to Tribune owners – Call me!

BERKSHIRE HATHAWAYBuffett Calls Allentown ‘Our Kind of Place’ tp Buy Paper (BusinessWeek) Warren Buffett, the billionaire chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A), told the Allentown Morning Call that the Pennsylvania community is “our kind of place” for investing in a newspaper. Buffett, who has spent more than $340 million on 80 newspapers, was asked by the publication if he would consider purchasing it. The Morning Call is owned by Tribune Co., which may put dailies up for sale as the company emerges from bankruptcy, people familiar with the matter said this week.

Don't be a wannabe Warren (InvestorsChronicle) Thousands of these 'average investors' continue to buy into the Buffett dream, though, despite warnings like this from Cullen Roche, who writes for the influential US blog Pragmatic Capital. There are hundreds of websites and books that will tell you the exact opposite, including no fewer than 1,800 on Amazon referencing the veteran investor. A new one - "Tap Dancing to Work" - landed on my desk only last week. Already it's number one on the e-tailer's business and investment section. Buffettism has become an industry in its own right, if not yet a fully-fledged philosophy.

Buffett, Bogle, Buddha: 3 wise men at Christmas (MarketWatch) Yes, Christmas is a perfect time to share the good feelings, especially what’s coming from my three wise men of investing: Buffett, Bogle and Buddha. Loomis has been writing about America’s favorite Uncle since she first mentioned that unknown hedge fund manager back in a 1966 Fortune article. She reminds us of the spiritual depth of the man this holiday season.

Buffett to 'Hypocrisy' Critics: Stock Purchase Not Timed to Avoid Taxes (CNBC) Warren Buffett has responded to critics who said the timing of Berkshire Hathaway's purchase of $1.2 billion of its own stock was designed to save the seller a lot of money in taxes. That's based on the assumption the seller expects the tax rate on capital gains will be substantially higher next year after the "fiscal cliff" is resolved, so he or she wanted to complete the sale before the end of this year.
