Twitter Inc (TWTR) Lets Users Embed Video On Other Sites

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is now letting its users embed Twitter videos on other sites on the web.

The announcement was made by Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) in a post on its Developer Blog.

According to Niall Kennedy, a developer advocate for the social network, the new embed video widget lets users highlight Twitter-hosted videos on websites enhanced by the same JavaScript that is used to render Tweet buttons and embedded Tweets.

Early on, Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) realized just how much embedding can be useful for its platform’s reach. After all, by letting users embed tweets, the social network expands the reach of its content to people on the Internet who may not have accounts on Twitter.

It appears as if the company is looking to use that same strategy to grow the reach of its hosted videos.

The move from Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) comes after it launched videos and group messages on its platform just this January.

Users can embed videos by clicking on the ••• button and selecting the “Embed Video” option to get an embed code. One caveat, however, is that the video should have been captured and uploaded using the Twitter apps for iOS and Android.

Jason Calacanis, an angel investor and entrepreneur has recently said that video might just be one of the key factors that will save the embattled social network. He said that the most influential people in the world are often on Twitter when they don’t even have accounts on other social networks such as Facebook or YouTube.

Video is a way for those people to engage others more and ultimately grow the community involved with the social network led by CEO Dick Costolo. According to Calacanis, Costolo should be given more credit for growing a product that is extremely complicated.

Daniel Benton’s Andor Capital Management winded down its stake in Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) 57% quarter over quarter by the end of the December quarter, ending the year with 2.5 million shares in the company.
