With more and more people going mobile, both with their smartphones and tablets, the need for increased security (learn more here) is extremely important. Those who do not take this seriously are taking a huge risk, many times with both personal and business related information. Fortunately, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is aware of this.
For many years, BlackBerry has been known as the smartphone company that pays the most attention to security. In fact, this is what helped the company move to the top of the industry not that long ago.
Despite the fact that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry has taken a step back as of late, the company is continuing to push forward in an attempt to regain market share.
Recently, BlackBerry released its Secure Work Space application for iOS and Android devices. This is a big deal for the company, as well as those who use a smartphone that relies on either the iOS or Android operating system.
With this software installed, users are able to keep personal and business related data separate. This may not sound like a big deal, but many have come to realize that using an app like this is a must.
It is important to note that the Secure Work Space application from BlackBerry can be used on both tablets and smartphones.
David Smith, the head of enterprise mobile computing at BlackBerry, shared the following information with Reuters:
“With an integrated management console, our clients can now see all of the devices they have on their network, manage those devices and connect to them securely. We now also have a secure work space on Android and iOS that allows our clients to secure and manage the data on those devices as well.”
With this application, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is hoping it will be able to improve its relationships with large clients, even those who are relying on smartphones from other companies.
Managed through BlackBerry Enterprise Service, this application makes it easier than even for companies to control every device accessing an internal network.
It is too early at this point to understand what this is going to do for Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry’s business. That being said, it is a move forward in the right direction as it will allow the company to form relationships with clients that may not be using their smartphones.
