Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) & Innovative Infotainment

The fact that Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is on the cutting edge of technology should not be a surprise to anybody at this point. The company is always looking towards the future, hoping to take things one step beyond the competition. With CEO Elon Musk at the helm, we can expect the company to pave the way as the months go by (check out this mind blowing story).

Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA)A recent piece published by Automotive News touched on one area in which Tesla is leading the industry. Here is what you need to know:

“If you want to know what vehicle infotainment systems will look like in five years, check out Tesla’s console, says Sachin Lawande, president of Harman International Industries Inc.’s infotainment division.

Automakers will equip their consoles with huge, touch-sensitive screens — such as Tesla’s 17-incher, says Lawande, whose company produces speakers, audio controls and software for infotainment.”

As you can see, Lawande feels that Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is doing things the right way when it comes to its infotainment system.

As you know, most manufacturers don’t have anything close to a 17 inch display. Instead, they have opted for something much smaller. While there is nothing wrong with this for the time being, Tesla is always looking towards the future. This is what sets the company apart from the competition and will allow it to achieve continued success down the road.

When asked about the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) infotainment system, in particular if the size is off base, Lawande added the following:

“Absolutely not. You will also see more dual screens, like Tesla uses. That’s a fantastic thing. If you can afford to put two screens in your car, you will want to do so. Why should you have to choose between displaying your nav and your audio? Why not have both? You will see the industry go down that path.”

The last sentence of that quote says it all. “You will see the industry go down that path.” In other words, the industry is moving down a path that Tesla is already on. Just how long it takes for the competition to catch up is anybody’s best guess.

If you believe what Lawande has to say, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is clearly the leader when it comes to this part of the automotive industry.
