Tesla Charging Stations: Tesla Motors Helping Owners With This Convenient Setup

Tesla Charging Stations: On the surface, owning an electric vehicle, such as one manufactured by Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), is a great idea. Not only are you able to save on the cost of gas, but you are doing your part in helping the environment.

Unfortunately, there are issues with these vehicles as well. Despite recent efforts to make its vehicles more affordable, if you are going to purchase from Tesla you are going to spend a lot of money.

Additionally, and most importantly to a lot of potential buyers, the car needs to be charged from time to time. After all, it does not run on gas.

The question is: what can Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) do to help its owners?

One of the best moves the company can make is to install charging stations at locations all over the country. This will go a long way in helping people get the juice they need when they are not at home.

One such project is going to be taking place in Normal, Illinois in the near future.

According to a report by Pantagraph.com, the “Normal City Council on Monday voted 5-2 to allow Tesla Motors to install up to 10 of its “supercharger” stations in the deck. Tesla will cover all costs and also will maintain the stations.”

The deck the article refers to is the “Uptown Station parking deck.” When people with a Tesla vehicle park here, they will be able to recharge the battery while away from the vehicle.

The agreement allows Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) to maintain chargers in this area for five years, with two options to extend the agreement for five additional years.

Of course, not everybody is on board with this idea. Especially considering the fact that the chargers can only be used with Tesla vehicles.

Councilmen Jeff Fritzen had this to say:

“I’m supportive of the EV Town initiative … but I’m hesitant here.” His main concern, as noted above, was that the stations only work with Tesla vehicles.

Despite the fact that Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) can travel 300 miles before needing a charge, some will find these chargers to be just what they need from a convenience point of view.

It will be interesting to see if more cities agree to this sort of arrangement with Tesla.
