The iPad’s share of China’s tablet-computer market plunged by more than 20 percentage points in the second quarter as Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) built on its lead in smartphones to cut into Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s sales. Apple’s iPad accounted for 28 percent of tablet shipments in China during the period, down from 49 percent a year earlier, Dickie Chang, a Hong Kong-based analyst with researcher IDC, said in an e-mail today. Samsung was second as its share surged to 11 percent from 6 percent a year earlier, he said.

There had been rumours that both iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S will be launched on Sept 10 and will go on sale by Sept 20. Proof to these rumours had finally emerged as insider from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s suppliers revealed that the company had already instructed supplier Hon Hai Precision Industry to start its shipping on September, The Wall Street Journal reported. According to the source, Apple Inc. had particularly instructed Hon Hai to begin its shipping both for a new high-end device, which can be the iPhone 5S, and low-end device, which can possibly be the iPhone 5C.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) saw some unusual options trading activity on Tuesday. Investors bought 14,306 put options on the stock, American Banking & Market News reports. This represents an increase of 469% compared to the typical daily volume of 2,513 put options. In other Google news, Director L John Doerr sold 4,836 shares of the stock in a transaction that occured on Thursday, August 15th. The shares were sold at an average price of $861.69, for a total transaction of $4,167,132.84.
