Solar Updates: SunPower Corporation (SPWR) CFO Unloads Shares, First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) Signs Power Supply Contract & SolarCity Corp (SCTY)’s Goal

SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWR) CFO Charles Boynton unloaded 5,000 shares of SunPower Corp. stock in a transaction dated Thursday, August 15th. The shares were sold at an average price of $21.38, for a total value of $106,900.00. Following the completion of the transaction, the chief financial officer now directly owns 33,018 shares in the company. The sale was disclosed in a legal filing with the SEC, which is available at this link. A number of research firms have recently commented on SPWR. Analysts at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. reiterated a “neutral” rating on shares of SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWR) in a research note to investors on Thursday, August 1st.

First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) Signs Power Supply Contract With Calif. City (Insider Monkey)
Tempe, Ariz.-based First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ:FSLR) is continuing its transition to being a power producer. On Tuesday, First Solar announced the signing of a power purchase agreement with the City of Roseville, Calif., whereby First Solar agreed to provide power from its 32 MW Lost Hills solar electricity plant after it has been built in Kern County, Calif., next year. 32 MW is, according to First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ:FSLR), sufficient to power 11,000 homes. The supply agreement, which goes into effect in 2015, will run for 10 years. Roseville Electric has purchased 325,000 MWH of renewable energy for $24 million for 10 years.

For SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWR), the answer is simple: It sells to both sides. The San Jose, Calif.-based firm makes high-performance solar cell panels, inverters and large systems. Its global customer base includes grid operators as well as residential and commercial users who buy or lease its systems.

(NASDAQ:FSLR) has named Raed Bkayrat its top man in Saudi Arabia, as the US solar giant continues fleshing out its team across the key emerging markets of the Middle East, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. Bkayrat – a Siemens veteran – joins First Solar as vice president of business development for Saudi Arabia from his current role at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, where he created a demonstration and testing programme for solar energy.
