With Android, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is trying to get users onto its many web services. Have an Android device? You’re much more likely to use gmail, Chrome, Google Docs, Google search, Google Maps, and perhaps even Google+.

Google doesn’t force any of these services onto Android users, but if you have an Android phone, why not?

If Facebook wants to be the centerpiece of its users’ lives, it needs more of these types of services. Perhaps a more robust email system, cloud storage, or a web browser.

Facebook’s phone strategy

If Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) believes that changing hardware partners will save its Home strategy, it is severely mistaken. The problem with Facebook Home is that most people don’t run their lives completely through Facebook — so they don’t want a phone that runs completely through Facebook either.

Facebook needs to work on creating more services, adopting a Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)-like strategy of designing a product that corresponds to every facet of a user’s online life. Until then, Facebook Home will remain a niche application.
