Blackberry Q10 Smartphone: A couple days back, we talked about how popular the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) Q10 smartphone has become in the UK. In fact, it is being called the “fastest selling ever at Selfridges,” which is saying quite a bit.

While this is good news for BlackBerry, it doesn’t mean the once dominant smartphone company is on its way back to the top of the industry. Instead, there is plenty of work to be done.

Up next, the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) Q10 needs to prove that it can sell just as well in other parts of the world. More specifically, the device needs to perform well in North America.

The Q10 is coming to Canada soon, meaning we will not have to wait long to see if the device is able to stack up to the competition.

According to a report by CBC.ca, the BlackBerry Q10 is going to land in Toronto first. The release is expected to get underway today, and then expand into the rest of the country throughout the rest of the week.

Hopefully, early Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) Q10 sales numbers from Toronto will begin to roll in sooner rather than later.

If the device is able to sell well in Toronto, it bodes well for the near term future in other parts of Canada. On the downside, if it struggles in this city that knows what it will do in the rest of the country.

Chief operating officer Kristian Tear had this to say to The Canadian Press:

“The demand in Toronto is very, very strong, and we want to make sure we have enough supply.”

Is a statement like this doing nothing more than setting Research In Motion Ltd up to fail?

If everything works out as planned, the launch in Toronto will be every bit as successful as the one in the United Kingdom last week.

Tear added the following regarding sales of the Q10 in other parts of the country:

“We start off by selling it in the Greater Toronto Area, then we expand the coverage and bring BlackBerry Q10 to all Canadians who are waiting for it throughout the country over the next couple of days.”

If the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) Q10 is a hit in Canada, it will be really interesting to see what happens when it makes it way to the rest of the world.
