Research in Motion Ltd. (BBRY) CEO: ‘Exciting’ BlackBerry Phone Coming Later This Year

Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) CEO Thorsten Heins is very excited about the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which officially hits U.S. retail stores Friday. But while the Z10 handset is ready for the shelves and the keyboard Q10 is due later this spring, Heins let it slip that there is one device in particular, due to release during the holiday shopping season, that he is particularly excited about – though he won’t say any more.

That, folks, is what we call a tease. Heins wouldn’t say specifics, but he did say recently that Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) – er, BlackBerry –  expects to have three to four smartphones in the market by the end of the calendar year. While there was earlier talk that BlackBerry had no inclination to go into the midrange tier of phones or lower, Heins did admit that a midlevel smartphone would likely be part of the stable, but he also said that a potential new flagship phone could be out by the holidays.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)“There’s one new product I’m really excited about, but I can’t really share it,” Heins said. “It takes BlackBerry 10 to another level in terms of the user experience.

“We’re cooking in the kitchen now,” he said. Guess he expects the marketplace will be hungry for whatever new courses Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) is cooking up after the U.S. market has had a chance to sample and digest the Z10 and Q10 during the spring months. What do you think? Is your appetite whetted for the BlackBerry 10 operating system? Will you consider looking into Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) for its phones, or for its company stock?
