Nokia Phone Price in India: Nokia Bringing Color to India for a Lower Price

Nokia Phone Price in India: Do you remember our piece earlier this week talking about Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) looking to grab a bigger piece of the smartphone pie in India? Despite the fact that the company is faced with an uphill climb, it continues to look for new ways of grabbing additional market share.

According to a report by The Hindu Business Line, Nokia “will be coming out with a basic colour phone priced at about Rs 1,200 this month.”

While adding a little bit of color may not be something that excites consumers in the United States and other developed countries, those in India are sure to look at this as a huge upgrade over what is currently available.

Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NOK)The article is reporting that the new device will be manufactured at the Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) Chennai facility.

For more information on what this means to the market, the author of the piece reached out to T. S. Sridhar, Regional General Manager South, of Nokia India. Here is what he had to say:

“We are specifically looking at India, Africa and China where there is huge scope in the entry-level market. In India, we are going to introduce the phone in Andhra Pradesh this month followed by other markets. We are planning to phase out the 1280 phone of which we have sold 10 crore pieces.”

The new device, known as the Nokia 105, was first introduced to the public at the Mobile World Congress 2013 event held in Barcelona, Spain.

Although anybody will be able to purchase the smartphone, its primary target will be consumers who do not currently have a mobile connection.

If nothing else, this low priced smartphone should give Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) another leg to stand on as it attempts to gain greater control of the market in India.
