Rouse Properties Inc (NYSE:RSE) had two C-level executives buy shares in the company in this time frame at prices just shy of $17; the $930 million market cap manager of regional malls currently trades at about $18.70. Over 200,000 shares are traded per day on average, so at that price there is plenty of daily dollar volume. We’d note that Rouse was spun out of General Growth Properties in early 2012 as a home for GGP’s less attractive shopping mall assets. Murray Stahl’s Horizon Asset Management increased the size of its position by 40% during the fourth quarter of 2012 to a total of 4.7 million shares.

Several insiders have added shares of high-yield telecom company Windstream Corporation (NYSE:WIN). At $8.45 as of this writing, the stock price is currently about even with where the first insiders started buying in early March. Windstream has been making quarterly dividend payments of 25 cents per share since 2006, which at current prices gives it a yield of over 10%, but financial performance has not been particularly strong. As a result the trailing P/E looks high and a number of market players are bearish judging by the fact that 13% of the float is held short. Income investors might consider Windstream but should be cautious in our view.
