Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Windows Web Traffic: Surprised?

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). While the company will always spend a lot of time and money on its Windows operating system (despite a rough patch), in the tablet and smartphone markets it is falling behind.

Chitika Insights recently published the findings of a data study based around Windows web traffic.

Here is what you need to know about the study:

“As Microsoft prepares to announce its Q4 2013 earnings on July 18, 2013, Chitika Insights examined key usage statistics across the software giant’s Windows product portfolio as they pertain to the North American market. Within the desktop operating system (OS) marketplace, Windows continues to hold a substantial advantage over its competitors overall, but the growth rate of its newest OS version, Windows 8, has flattened in recent months.”

As expected, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has no trouble leading the pack as far as its desktop operating system is concerned. That being said, its newest version, Windows 8, is not pushing forward as quickly as the company would like.

The good thing is that Windows 8.1 is on its way. This could be just what the company needs in order to get back on solid ground.

Over the past year, Windows has held onto roughly 85 percent of the desktop operating system market while Mac has taken home 13 percent. This is a comfortable lead, however, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) must make sure its Windows 8.1 update is for the better.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows continues to shine, but must be aware of the fact that a growing number of people are browsing via their tablet and/or smartphone. This could change things for the company down the line.
