Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) desperately wants to compete in the smartphone space with the likes of iOS and Android. If the company is going to make this happen in the near future, it needs to get serious about the apps and games offered to users.

Fortunately, indie game developers are beginning to take notice of the Windows platform. For this reason, Microsoft is seeing an uptick in activity which should help the company sustain its momentum in the quarters to come.

Steve Ballmer and crew have never backed down from a challenge, and we should expect the company to continue its fight for smartphone market share.

We all known that Microsoft is putting a lot of time, effort, energy, and dollars into making itself stand out in the smartphone industry. By attracting indie game developers, the company will have its own sales force, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Here are three of the most popular indie games for the Windows Phone platform:

–  Muffin Knight by Angry Mob Games. If action is your thing, this game could be right up your alley. Your job is to turn the main character back into a boy. To do so, you will have to take all the muffins to the fairy. Do you have it in you?

– Piggly by Betacom S.A. The name of this game is just as silly as the action, however, it is one of those games that are sure to draw you in and keep you playing for hours on end. Let’s put it this way: you need to give Piggly a try to understand what it has to offer.

– Fly Johnny Fly by Riddlersoft. As Johnny the crash test dummy, you are staffed with the task of flying him around the screen in the name of science.

As you can see, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is attracting some pretty interesting indie games. The Windows Phone operating system may not be on the same level as iOS or Android just yet, but it is making major strides.
